Before Your Session
What actually happens on your shoot day
12 June 2026 · 4 min read

Most of the nerves women bring to a portrait day come from one place: not knowing what the day will actually feel like. So before you arrive, let us walk you through it. By the end of this you should be able to picture the whole thing, and once you can picture it, there is very little left to fear.
The short version is this. You arrive, you are looked after, and a few days later, over Zoom, you sit down and see images of yourself that genuinely stop you in your tracks. Everything in between is designed so that nothing is asked of you except to show up and be seen.
When you arrive
You walk into a private studio that has been set aside entirely for you. There is no waiting room full of strangers, no queue, no sense of being processed. We greet you by name, take your coat, and put something warm or cool in your hand.
The first thing we do is slow the day down. We talk. We look through the looks you brought and the ideas we shaped together at your consultation. There is nowhere else to be and nothing for you to organise, because all of that was handled before you walked in. The plan already exists. Today you simply get to live inside it.
Hair, make-up and styling
Next you settle into the chair, and this is where the shift begins. Our hair and make-up artists are not there to turn you into someone else. They are there to bring the most assured, most luminous version of you forward, the one you catch glimpses of on your best mornings.
This part is genuinely lovely. You sit, you are looked after, and you watch yourself arrive in the mirror. Many women tell us the moment the styling is finished is the moment they first believe the day is going to be wonderful. We then dress each look with you, checking every detail so that by the time you step in front of the camera, nothing is left to chance.
In front of the camera
Here is the part people brace for, and here is the truth: it is the easiest part of all.
The studio is unhurried and private. There is music, there is conversation, and there is a photographer who directs you through every single frame. You are never left standing there wondering what to do with your hands or where to look. You are guided, gently and clearly, look by look:
- Where to place your weight and how to stand so the line of you is at its strongest - What to do with your hands, your chin, your shoulders - When to breathe, when to soften, when to hold - How to move between frames so it feels like flow, not a series of stiff poses
You do not need to perform and you do not need to know what you are doing. That is our craft, not your homework. Your only job is to respond to the direction and let yourself be seen. Most women relax within the first few minutes and then, somewhat to their own surprise, start to enjoy it.
We move through your looks at a pace that feels calm rather than rushed. There is time to laugh, to reset, to try the bolder idea. Nothing about the day is a gamble. Each frame is built on purpose.
Seeing your gallery
When the shooting is done, you change back, take a breath, and then comes the part everyone remembers. A few days later, over Zoom from the comfort of your own home, you sit down with us and see your gallery for the first time.
This is not a link sent to your inbox weeks later. We bring the images up together, large and beautiful, and we watch your face as you see yourself the way the lens saw you. For many women this is the most surprising moment of all, because the woman on the screen is unmistakably them, simply seen properly, perhaps for the first time.
We then sit with you and help you choose the pieces you want to keep and live with. There is no pressure and no rush. It is a conversation, and a celebration of who you are becoming.
Nothing is asked of you except to show up
If you take one thing from this, let it be this. You do not need to arrive camera-ready, pose-ready, or anything-ready. You do not need to organise a single part of the day. Everything has been designed in advance so that you can simply arrive and let it happen.
That is the whole promise of a Body & Soul day. We carry the plan, the styling, the direction and the pace. You bring yourself, and we take it from there.
If you can picture the day now, the natural next step is to start the conversation. When you are ready, apply for your Body & Soul Experience, and your consultation is where we begin to shape the day around you.
